The history of the Evzone uniform through 40 paintings by Yannis Mylonas
Exhibitions 21 March 2016
The panorama of the national costume, the fustanela, is presented in an art exhibition, which opens on March 21 in the hall of the Presidential Guard in Athens. The exhibition, headlined “The Euzonian uniform, its historical journey through 40 works by Yannis Mylonas”, is co-organized by the Presidency of the Hellenic Republic and the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle Foundation.
The organization of the exhibition and the publication of the Catalog was completed by the collaborators of the Museums Foundation. The homonymous Catalog- Album, published by IMMA, presents coloured images of the fustanela wearers, but also timeless postcards with Euzonians, with informative historical and costume notes about the Euzonian uniform, which has established itself as a symbol of our national tradition and it represents the nations struggles and valiance. Extensive preludes by the assistant professor of the University of Macedonia and director of the scientific center of IMMA, Stavroula Mavrogeni, and the painter – costume designer Yannis Mylonas explain the evolution of the fustanella, through the military units that glorified it, and the circumstances under which the uniform was established as the national costume of the Greeks.
The exhibition opens on Monday, 21 March 2016, at the Hall of Honour of the Presidential Guard (2 Herodu Atticus Street) with general admission to the public. After its completion in Athens, the exhibition will be displayed in Thessaloniki, at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle.
