Museum of the Macedonian Struggle
In honor of the International Women’s Day 2024, the Foundation of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA), on Monday 11 March, organized with great success a special event on the theme: “The presence of women in political life: Challenges and Perspectives”.
The event opened with the greeting sent by the Member of Parliament of Thessaloniki, Mr. Dimitris Kouvelas.
In his videotaped speech, the honorary guest of the event, the Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Mrs. Zetta Makri, highlighted the social struggles of women for the establishment of their rights and pointed out the always relevant role of IMMA, which plays a leading role in daily social events with actions of substance.
This was followed by contributions from the distinguished panelists: Eleni Vakali, Ambassador, Head of the Liaison Office of Greece in Pristina, Stavroula Mavrogeni, Professor UOM- Director of the IMMA’s KEMIT, Athena Pavlidou, Philologist-Museologist, Director of IMMA and Katerina Tzavaras, Writer-Educator, Head of Educational Programmes of IMMA.
Moderated by the journalist Ioanna Dandelia and her incisive commentary, the participants first presented the historical path of women, as it is outlined in the fields of diplomacy, science, culture, literature and education. In particular, they presented their personal experience of the difficulties, prejudices, challenges and perspectives of women working in these fields, shedding light on unknown aspects of women’s contribution to the way in which contemporary socio-political “becoming” is shaped.
The presentations were followed by an interesting discussion with great participation from the audience. The event was attended by the Vice Rector of the AUTH, Associate Professor Stella Lavva, the representative of the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Mrs. Elli Kostidou, the president, Mrs. Maria Sarigiannidou and members of the Association “Friends of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle”, university professors, friends and colleagues from the field and the administration of education, museums and cultural institutions of the city and journalists.
