‘‘Yiannis and Miltos Manakia. People behind the lens’’. 8th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art.
Exhibitions 15 February – 31 December 2023
Museum of Macedonian Struggle
The Museum of Macedonian Struggle participates in the 8th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, organized by MOMus, under the general title “Geoculture”. The temporary exhibition entitled “Yannis and Miltos Manakia. The faces behind the lens” presents for the first time to the public a large collection of photographs from the personal archive of Leonidas Manakis, son of Miltos Manakias, given to the IMMA by the Ambassador Extraordinary Mr. Alexandros Mallias. The Manakia brothers, originally from Avdella in Grevena, traveled through the countryside and the major urban centers of the Balkans, recording the life of working people, moments of relaxation and entertainment, as well as architectural landmarks, historical and social events that marked the changes of the first half of the 20th century. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the documentary of the same name, produced by the filmmaker Akis Loukas, which was created exclusively for the needs of the exhibition.
The exhibition will be presented at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle (Proxenou Koromila 23, Thessaloniki) from 15 February to 31 December 2023.
The inauguration will be held by Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, Deputy Minister of Interior, responsible for Macedonia – Thrace, on Wednesday 15 February 2023 at 6:30.
The Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art is co-funded by Greece and the European Union (European Regional Development Fund), organized by MOMus and implemented by MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art-Collections of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the State Museum of Contemporary Art.
