OUR MUSEUM | Summer Creative Workshops at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle
DATE
17 – 28 June 2024
LOCATION
Museum of the Macedonian Struggle

Have you thought about how many of the objects you use every day are in the display cases of a museum? But what materials are they made of and what needs did they serve in an earlier time?

At the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle (MMA) you can discover dozens of such objects as well as clothes, books, photos and souvenirs that you have at home or at your grandmother’s and grandfather’s house. Things that connect us with the history of our family, the old occupations, the history of the Museum, the neoclassical building, and Thessaloniki.

Every day, based on an exhibit or a photograph from the Museum’s Collection, an art and ethnographic recording workshop will take place, combined with photographic, digital and artistic illustrations of the corresponding objects that the children will bring from their homes. Through this experiential activity with art, museology and history, the aim is to raise awareness that the Museum space is a flexible, open and creative environment for study, research, discussion, play and entertainment, where human artistic and professional activity is linked to the historical timeline.

At the same time, the children will recognize the specificities of local history and the historical wealth of Macedonia, with emphasis on the multicultural identity of Thessaloniki, through environmental and cultural walks in well-known buildings and landmarks of the city (White Tower, Royal Theatre, neoclassical building of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, etc. etc.), but also the new digital applications with 3D visualizations of the objects and a treasure game in the halls, guided by the new audio, digital guide of the Museum!

Come and explore the secrets of the MMA’s exhibits together in our experiential, summer workshops, with games and activities in and around the Museum, painting, theater, physical activity, films and music, writing stories and drawing comics.

This time, the mission that the young museum-goers will undertake is to create “their own museum”, inside the MUSEUM!
