“Digital infrastructure and actions to enhance the mission of the Foundation for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle”.
The project entitled “Digital infrastructure and actions to enhance the mission of the Foundation for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle” is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the Priority Axis “Development of entrepreneurship support mechanisms” of the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation” and by national resources through the Public Investment Program. The Funding body is the Ministry of Development and Investments. The project concerns the utilization of digital media and the use of emerging technologies for the preservation, promotion, and media dissemination of the Museum’s cultural repository as well as the strengthening of cultural tourism of Thessaloniki.
More specifically, in the context of the project, the following work packages were implemented.
- Digitization, photography and documentation of 669 artworks, 50 books (about 5,000 pages), 12,600 photographs, 170 microfilms and 10,000 pages of archival material.
- 3D modelling of 300 selected exhibits
- Documentation and collection management system for the Museum’s Collection and Archive. In the context of this work package, the open-source software Collective Access was installed and configured. The software was customized responding to the diverse elements that constitute the collection such as objects, photographs and archival material.
- Virtual Tour: Design and development of the Museum’s online collection.
- Design and production of storytelling videos, which present the Museum’s exhibits through literary texts and letters.
- Website design and development for the online promotion of the Museum, its history and work related to the cultural heritage of Macedonia.
- Digital tour guide enables the Museum to enrich its collection with a wide range of multimedia material creating for the visitors an engaging experience. The digital tour guide for smart mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) enables interaction with the visitor beyond the physical boundaries of the visited space. The mobile app acts as a guide when visiting the collection providing utmost importance to user experience, engagement and authenticity of the information presented.
- Design and development of educational interactive applications including games and quizzes
widening accessibility and inclusivity
- Virtual reality application that allows the user/visitor to immerse in a virtual environment that faithfully represents the Museum digital twin and its operating conditions.
- Digital interactive map that presents the Museum’s collection with geospatial data, so that the user can associate the object to the physical location within the city of Thessaloniki and the wider region
- Digital interactive timeline, through a timeline the end user can see the selected objects of the collection based on their time of creation.
